The penguins came marching in today. The kids were so excited to share their projects. I am so proud of their hard work! The penguins are on display in the LLC and will remain there for the month of February. We will be taking a field trip to West Rock Recycling on March 16th. We are so excited to see recycling in action! This is such a powerful trip for the students to lean about the importance of reducing waste. Your child will be bringing home a permission form in their purple folder today. Please send in your signed permission form along with $6 by February 14th. We will be exchanging class Valentine's this year if you want to get a head start on picking some up. Class names and instructions will be attached on my weekly email and on the blog. We will have exchange Valentine's that Friday before February Break. Kindergarten through 5th grade students, are you excited about the STRONG4LIFE program here at Tritt. The Wellness Committee is promoting a poster contest to showcase your art and creativity. See the attached Poster Contest form for more information. Top two posters chosen from each grade level will have the opportunity to eat a healthy breakfast with Tritt Administration. Can’t wait to see your posters! Lastly, we have started daily timed multiplication tests. As help, they will take home a practice from that day. This is meant to help your child become fluent. As they pass a test, they will be given a different one the next day until all 27 tests have been passed. I have challenged students to have all the tests passed by April 3. If they do, they will receive 1000 Bonus Bucks. Thank you for your support in advance! Have a great weekend!! Please have your child address their own cards. Boxes or bags are welcome with your child’s name for collecting, (it is not necessary to decorate a fancy Valentine box)! With 4th grade in the horizon, one important task we have as third grade teachers is to help students make the shift from lower elementary to upper elementary school. With this in mind, we will begin adding a percentage to all graded papers going home. This will give you an idea of how your child will be graded in 4th grade when students move towards a traditional report card. A letter will be going home in your child's purple folder about this today. Be on the lookout! Our penguin projects will be due in two short weeks. I hope your child has had the chance to get started on this. January 31st will be here before we know it! Also, we are running low on paper towels, so we would appreciate any donations! This week we started our next novel study on the book Mr. Popper's Penguins. The kids are really enjoying Mr. Popper and Captain Cook and all of their antics! In your child's purple folder on Monday, you should have found instructions for our next at-home project. Your child will create their own penguin from recyclable materials. We just love seeing the creativity of the students on this one! Our penguins will even be displayed in the LLC for the month of February! The due date for this project is January 31st. Be sure to read the purple handout for more information about the project requirements. On Friday, we had a visit from the Recycling team at SunTrust Park. The students rotated through 4 different sessions where they learned all about all of the work that goes into reducing waste at the ballpark. We learned lots of new information to help us with our year long STEAM project!
